Industry Spotlight: Nursing Informatics Review Course at MUSE 2011 International Conference

Are you planning to become a Certified Informatics Nurse? If so you need to attend the Nursing Informatics Review Course June 3-4, 2011 in Nashville, TN. This course will earn the attendee 14.75 CNE contact hours. MUSE International, the course sponsor, is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

According to estimates by the Office of the National Coordinator we will need 9000 clinical informatics professionals in the next five years. MUSE recognizes the need of its nursing membership to have access to a course that will prepare attendees to develop their careers in this specialized field.

This intensive weekend course will focus on content for Registered Nurses who are interested in becoming American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) board-certified Informatics Nurses. Other clinical professional working in informatics may wish to take the course to become exposed to the course topics. The featured topics include: System Life Cycle; Human Factors; Information Technology; Information Management and Knowledge Generation; Professional Practice, Trends and Issues; Models and Theories; and Management and Leadership.

Susan Newbold

Your instructors will be Susan K Newbold, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN, FHIMSS and William Spock, MSCIS, RN. Dr. Newbold is Education Lead for the implementation of the Electronic Health Record at the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Nashville, TN. She is uniquely qualified to teach this course as she has experience in the vendor, consulting, academic and hospital world. Dr. Newbold is Board Certified in Nursing Informatics and initiated the first review course in nursing informatics in 1995. In 2001 she won the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing International Technology Award for Knowledge Advancement for this course.

Mr. William “Bill” Spock is an EHR Project Director, also at HCA, Nashville, TN. As a nurse and project manager, Bill will offer insights and use recent real-world examples in system implementation, project management, integration, and other topics surrounding healthcare information technology. Bill has experience working in the for-profit, non-profit, and vendor healthcare space. Until recently he has worked part time as a hospital staff nurse using the technology he implemented to experience firsthand what nursing and other clinicians contend with during the clinical transformation process.
