About the Organization:

Maine Medical Center (MMC) is a nonprofit, private corporation governed by volunteer trustees from the communities we serve. MMC serves as a community hospital for the people of greater Portland, Maine and as the premier tertiary care center for northern New England.

The hospital has 606 licensed beds, and provides comprehensive inpatient services in all medical specialties. Centers of excellence are being developed in cancer care, heart care, children's services, and other areas, building from existing excellence in multi-disciplinary services.

MMC has earned numerous awards and recognition in the healthcare industry including: U.S. News and Word Report's "America's Best Hospitals" rankings; Hospital & Health Networks' "Most Wireless Hospitals" and "Most Wired Hospitals" awards; The Leapfrog Group's "Top 50 Safest Hospitals" rankings; and Solucient's "Top 100 Hospitals" ratings; among others.

Portland is Maine’s largest city with 66,000 full time residents; however it swells to 2 million if one includes annual visitors and part-time residents. Visitors come by car, train, airplane, and boat. Each year our port alone handles over 206,000 international passengers, including 41,000 cruise ship passengers. At every turn, Portland is an experience for everyone.
